Whether you’re a nature lover or are simply looking for a venue that’s out of the ordinary, a forest is one of the most unique and beautiful locations you can choose for your special day. There are some practicalities you will need to consider when having your wedding in the great outdoors, of course, but don’t let that put you off. Here are some of our favourite reasons why you should consider a forest wedding.

The venue is already decorated

Deciding to have a forest wedding will take some of the stress out of decorating a venue from scratch, since you’ll be surrounded by the beauty of nature. Of course, you’re likely to want to include a few personal finishing touches, but there’s no need for extra floral arrangements or foliage to decorate the venue, as Mother Nature has already done all the work for you.

Each season has something different to offer; whether you love the vivid colours of autumn, spring flowers or even fancy a winter wedding, this unique location works for all tastes. If you’re planning to get married in summer, the foliage will even add some well-needed shade (or shelter, if there’s an unexpected downpour).

In winter, you may want to choose a location with an indoor area nearby, to relocate for the reception following your adventurous outdoor ceremony. To transform your indoor space into an all-night party venue in keeping with your ceremonial setting, all you need are a few rustic fairy lights, an atmospheric live band and a dance floor, and you’ll have created the ideal backdrop for an unforgettable reception.

More environmentally friendly

Sustainable weddings are very much in vogue, with more and more couples wanting to flex their eco-credentials on their big day. A forest setting gives you the perfect excuse to theme your wedding around the environment and nature. Use flower petals as confetti and create table decorations from leaves and moss to stick to the theme, and cut back on unnecessary waste. You could also encourage your guests to buy eco-friendly gifts, and hand out on-brand wedding favours yourselves.

No hotels? No problem! What better excuse to pitch up a tent than at a forest wedding? Whether you prefer camping, glamping or even staying in a log cabin, there are lots of great forest locations
that offer some unique accommodation to immerse your guests in nature, whilst keeping your wedding’s carbon footprint down at the same time.

Can save money on expensive venues

If you’re planning your forthcoming nuptials on a budget, why not save on expensive venue hire costs and take the festivities to the forest? Having an outdoorsy wedding allows you to keep to the theme of nature, without reaching too far into your pockets. Why not use tree stumps or furbished logs as a beautiful seating option for your guests? You can also use a simple pallet on which you can inscribe the order of the day, to keep your guests well informed. When it comes to the post-ceremony merriment, consider keeping things informal with a chilled BBQ, bonfire and some good music.

You could even have a bit of fun with your wedding look – after all, what screams forest wedding more than a flower crown? If you’ve ever needed an excuse to wear one, this is it. There are many tutorials online for how to make the perfect eco floral crown, so pass on the costly headwear and use this as a chance to get a little creative!
